As a poor child born into a broken home surrounded by the evil and negativity of the world, Mathias learned at a young age that if he was going to change the trajectory of his life, he would need something to ground him. He was determined to pave the way for his younger siblings by excelling in his academic studies, volunteering in his community, mentoring his peers and youth, thriving in sports, working to assist in paying bills, and growing stronger in his faith in Jesus Christ.
Among the countless academic and athletic awards and special recognitions, Mathias graduated from high school as the valedictorian with a 4.0 grade point average and over 12 scholarship offers to attend college. He was the first in his family to achieve such a feat. Four years later, he graduated from Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University with many prestigious honors including 4 consecutive years of Honor Roll & the Dean’s List, Magna Cum Laude, and the Top Scholar for the College of Agricultural, Life, and Natural Sciences to name a few.
Since his high school years, Mathias has been passionate about empowering those around him to fight for their dreams no matter the cost. His gift of communicating and connecting with people through his words and selfless love enabled him to discover his ability to make an impact on this world in his own special way. The confidence provided by his faith, determination not to fail his siblings, and the desire to change the cursed-like dynamics of his struggling family and community, weighed heavily on his shoulders and brought him to the place he is today.
Twelve days after his 27thbirthday, Mathias’ mother was murdered cold-blooded. This unforeseen and undesirable tribulation occurred days before Mathias accepted his new position with the federal government. The source of light, strength, and hope that once lived within his heart and soul died as he watched his mother’s nearly unrecognizable body be carried off by the paramedics. For nearly a year Mathias stopped living and only existed in this world as he felt powerless, hopelessness, and voiceless as the evil and darkness in his life finally consumed him. The world around Mathias continued as he remained motionless and muted as no relative or close friend knew what to say or do to comfort or distract him from the pain in his heart or mind.
After months of averaging three hours of sleep, tear-filled prayers to God requesting the restoration of his joy and drive forcing himself to get up every day and try, he finally gave up on attempting to recover life as he knew it before the tragedy. Mathias realized that he had been praying for the wrong thing. God refreshed his memory of his talents, how they related to his purpose in life, and how they could help him heal and be given life from within. He soon discovered the silver lining in his catastrophe. The power in his voice and words, the impact of his influence, and his love for God gave birth to his first published fictional book, Voiceless. Mathias wrote Voiceless for those who may be struggling in life feeling hopeless, abandoned, and even unfulfilled. The creation of Voiceless provides an outlet for those who feel as if no one understands their pain or suffering.
